I feel like I keep repeating myself when it comes to R.S. Grey and her books, but my goodness how do you just keep getting better and better? I’m a big mush of emotions and giddy glee after I finish your books!

I don’t know what it is about Grey’s books, but they draw me completely in every, single time. Over and over I find myself falling in love with the characters, with the setting and the stories.

The setting in this one is no different (I need to tour the US and experience these places). I’ve always been somewhat drawn to small towns, there’s something so hyggeligt (adj of hygge, just fyi)  about them. I have no clue whether Cedar Creek is a real place and sure I could google it, but I’d rather not, I’d rather keep believing that it’s real, ’cause then I’d be able to visit. I want to visit Blue Stone Ranch, the winery, the creek and the small chic shack! I want walk among the cows, Alfred by my side, and I want to experience a Cedar Creek sunset.

And that’s what Grey’s books do to you, they draw you in, they are home to beautiful places with beautiful relationships.

The characters continue to surprise and delight me, where can I go find myself a Jack, a friend like Meredith, and a grandma like Edith? The characters are essential for me when it comes to Grey’s books, and in Arrogant Devil she’s outdone herself once again! The enemies to lovers trope is one of my absolute faves, and Grey does it so, so well! Jack and Meredith are at each other’s necks due to false perceptions, and it is onnnnn after that!

I absolutely adore Meredith, and how strong she is. She was trapped in an emotionally abusive relationship, and when she finally got the chance, she ran from it. It’s amazing to see how she blossoms right in front of your eyes as you’re reading though the book, and how she still believes in love! It’s so incredibly heartwearming to see her transformation, and to see how other people view her. She might be one of my all time favorite R.S. Grey characters.

The same goes for the broody, arrogant devil named Jack, *fans self* because whew! Dark hair, brown eyes, scruff. Check, check, and check. Cowboy, has a dog, can handle a rope? Check, check, and check. I MEAN COME ON! I want a slice of that! It was an absolute thrill to watch these two characters circle around each other in a will they, won’t they? On a more serious note… I love that he asked Meredith for consent before doing something, it was a great, and important detail.

As mentioned earlier, enemies to lovers is one of my absolute favorite tropes (also friends to lovers, right?!), and a slow burning enemies to lovers book?! Yes please, and thank you. I love a good slow burn, and this one was perfect. It wasn’t too drawn out, no it was just the right amount and it allowed their relationship to build and flourish in a natural way.

I finished the book in one sitting, I just couldn’t put it down, and to me that’s the true testament to whether a book is great or not.

So thank you once again Rachel, for providing me with another heartwarming story, you are an absolute joy and the feelings and hard work you put into your books are so evident.

If you enjoy romance, witty writing and wonderful characters, make sure to pick up this book, it’s out now! I can’t wait to see what’s next from R.S. Grey.

About ARROGANT DEVIL

Everyone in Cedar Creek, Texas, knows Jack McNight is an arrogant devil. Physically, I get it: he’s tan and fit, with coal-black hair that’s clearly been scorched by hellfire. Oh, and his personality? It burns just as hot.

When I show up on the doorstep of Blue Stone Ranch, I’m run-down and rockin’ my last pair of underwear. I’m hoping for a savior, but instead, I find him.

My opinion of Jack is marred by a dismal first impression, but his opinion of me is tainted even before I arrive. He’s heard I’m a spoiled princess there to take advantage of his goodwill. To him, I’m more trouble than I’m worth.

Our button-pushing banter should get under my skin. His arrogance should be a major turn-off. Problem is, devils are known to offer their own form of temptation.

Every one of his steely glares sends a shiver down my spine.

Every steamy encounter leaves me reeling.

Sure, it could be the Texas heat messing with my head, but there’s no way I’ll survive the summer without silencing him with a kiss and wrestling him out of those Wranglers.

Who knows…going to bed with the devil might just be the salvation I’ve been looking for all along.

Review

Rachel!! How do  you do it? Your books make my heart smile.

If you still haven’t read any of Rachel Grey’s books, then honestly, what are you waiting for? She is the queen of writing rom-coms and The Beau & the Belle is another instant hit.

The Beau & The Belle – ugh. R.S. Grey has once again created a lovable, relatable, funny, sweet and distintive character with her heroin Lauren LeBlanc. She was so refreshing, straight forward and unique.

The story was divided into the past and the present, and I have to say that reading the past was like opening a time capsule, Lauren’s life could just as easily have been mine. R.S. Grey really knows how to create a setting, set the mood and turn up the nostalgia. I mean all the references to Messenger, hoping to catch someone’s attention by logging in and out, the references the P!nk, and omg Wonderwall, it was such a fun trip down memory lane. She had me cracking up, which has become the norm when I read Grey’s books.

As the story enters the present day, Lauren has grown into a wonderful headstrong woman, who is about to open up her own business in her hometown of New Orleans.

Let me just say, I’ve never been to New Orleans, but oh my goodness, can I go right now? I need to go. The descriptions of this city was absolutely incredible.

And it’s here she that meets Beau again. Beau  lived with them for a short while when she was 17 years old, and he was 24.  And Beau, Beau, Beau – Rachel how do you come up with these characters? I need a Beau in my life. He’s hard working, dedicated, sweet and just YES!

There’s a push and pull between these two characters, and it turns into a slow-burn, which takes its time and doesn’t rush. Their chemistry was off the walls, they bantered, they sizzled and they make you aww.

It’s a great feeling when you can’t put a book down, and this was the case with The Beau & the Belle, I found my eyes trying to read faster than my brain and I just wanted to know what would happen.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, R.S. Grey writes such incredible, heartwarming stories, and she’s become one my absolute favorite rom-com writers.

If you enjoy romance, witty writing and wonderful characters, make sure to pick up this book, it’s out now! I can’t wait to see what’s next from R.S. Grey.

About THE BEAU & THE BELLE

Beau Fortier starred in most of my cringe-worthy teenage fantasies.

I met him when I was a junior in high school, a time that revolved exclusively around bad hair, failed forays into flirting, and scientific inquiries into which brand of toilet paper worked best for stuffing bras.

That is, until Beau moved into the small guest house just beyond my bedroom window.

A 24-year-old law student at Tulane, Beau was as mysterious to me as second base (both in baseball and in the bedroom). He was older. Intimidating. Hot. Boys my age had chicken legs and chubby cheeks. Beau had calloused hands and a jaw cut from steel. Our interactions were scarce—mostly involving slight stalking on my end—and yet deep down, I desperately hoped he saw me as more of a potential lover than a lovesick loser.

Turns out, I was fooling myself. My fragile ego learned that lesson the hard way.

Now, ten years later, we’re both back in New Orleans, and guess who suddenly can’t take his eyes off little ol’ me.

My old friend, Mr. Fortier.

But things have changed. I’m older now—poised and confident. My ego wears a bulletproof vest. The butterflies that once filled my stomach have all perished.

When I was a teenager, Beau warned me to guard my heart.

Let’s hope he knows how to guard his.

2017 wrap-up

FullSizeRender.jpg2017 went by so freaking fast, I can’t believe it. It was the first full year of blogging for me, and even though I wish I’d done more reviews, more posts etc. it was a lot of fun getting my feet wet in the blogosphere.

2017 was a great year of reading for me, I surpassed my goodreads goal of 100, and actually ended up reading 162 books. WOAH!

2018 is going to be the year where I work on my mental health, where I do more of what makes me happy, let more things go and being sending out positivity.

To be completely honest, I haven’t made any new year’s resolutions for my blog, but some of the things I want to do are: posting more regularly, posting not just reviews but other bookish posts as well.

In 2017 I read some incredible books, and I even reviewed some of them, I’ve listed them below, maybe you’ll want to read these books as well. What were your highlights of 2017?

★★★★★ books of 2017

A Monster Calls

Beard Science

The Hating Game

Review

3.5★ rounded up to 4 ★

Just like M.P Tonnesen’s previous book The Cosmopolitan Islander, her newest book, Desert Skies, Rebel Souls,  is packed with beautiful prose wrapped in a wonderful setting to accompany a lovestory.

Olivia is 18 and comes from a very priviliged family. She’s decided to become a volunteer in a kibbutz in Israel, and leaves behind her familiy and highschool boyfriend.

In Israel she meets a bunch of other young volunteers, among these, two fellow Danish girls named Hannah and Lola. She also meets Chaim, an older, gorgeous Israeli man, who sweeps her off of her feet.

As stated in the beginning, the language is just beautiful, thoughts, feelings, emotions are tangled into a beautiful web, that is so descriptive. At times, you felt as if you were present at bazaar in Israel, or wandering the streets of Tel-Aviv.

Due to this, I felt that book read a bit more as a travel, than “just” a coming-of-age story. I also found myself having a bit of trouble connecting to Oliva, and kind of like Chloe, in M.P Tonnesen’s first book, all the boys are infatuated with her, and she is a bit of a slut shamer, which is really unfortunate. Every once in a while, Olivia will make some comments about the other girls that just read wrong, and even though the book is set in the late 1990’s, and Olivia is only 18, I still feel compelled to comment on it. She refers to them as lazy cows, and makes some oppositions between herself and them.

I really wish that Oliva had defended Lola when Chaim implied that people were calling her a slut. Instead it’s only when Oliva herself is confronted with some stereotypical prejudice that she becomes angry about it.

At times it felt as if there were some, I won’t say plot holes, but passages where I would liked to know more about the situation, instead it would be presented as a flashback, and I would sit back and think to myself, ok … what exactly went down?

The book as said, reads a bit like a travel book, with an accompaigning lovestory. The travel bits are super interesting, and the commentary about Israel, Palestine and the Middle East in general, is interesting, but I want more of the love story!

It’s a whirlwind love story that just moves way too quickly, I like a build up, I like the getting to know you phase, and I missed that a bit in this story. While the scenes with Chaim and Oliva were great, it all went very fast, I’m not going to spoil the ending, but WOW.

Throughout the story it becomes apparant that Olivia has some issues with her mother, and those issues become more clear as she returns to Denmark.

This is a coming-of-age story, reminding me a bit of some of the classic novels I read as a teen by Danish authors, such as Kirsten and Hanne-Vibeke Holst. A lot of times they were character based just like this novel, and focused on one girl as their main character.

The pacing of the novel was great, and it flowed along nicely. It also didn’t feel as heavily packed with information and descriptions as the previous book, and that I really liked.

If you enjoy beautiful writing, a strong female character (with flaws), filled with gorgeous, descriptive sceneries and a coming-of-age story with a diverse love interst, this book is just for you!

I look forward to seeing more from M.P Tonnesen.

Thanks to the author for generously providing me an ARC to review.
